The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Land Surveyor in the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Lands, Housing and the Environment.

 

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the Chief Surveyor in the provision of technical land surveying services, in accordance with the Land Survey Act (8.09); and in the provision of administrative support on land surveying matters.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Design and execution of cadastral and topographical surveys;

  • Maintain survey records and information, including registry maps and cadastral sheets;

  • Compute and plot land surveys;

  • Assist the Chief Surveyor to keep under review the criteria for survey methods and procedures;

  • Execution of accuracy checks on submitted surveys;

  • Provide advice for policy decisions on land issues;

  • Offer technical advice on land surveying matters, as appropriate;

  • Assist the Chief Surveyor in mediating land disputes;

  • Supervise the work of the Survey Technicians and Survey Assistants and provide on-the-job training;

  • Represent the Department at meetings or public fora, as required by the Chief Surveyor;

  • Prepare exhibits and appear in Court as Expert Witness, and;

  • Prepare report and requisite documents for executed survey works.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The Applicant should possess: -

  • an undergraduate degree in Surveying and Geographic Information Sciences or other equivalent professional area from a recognized institution;

  • at least five (5) years post-qualification experience;

  • possession of a Licenced Land Surveyor’s certificate from country of origin would be considered an asset;

  • advanced knowledge of modern design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of cadastral and topographical surveys;

  • working knowledge of computer-aided land surveying software and Geographic Information Systems (GIS);

  • good working understanding of Land Law and Land Administration;

  • strong supervisory skills, with the ability to coordinate and evaluate the work of subordinate employees;

  • ability to demonstrate commitment to team work;

  • customer service management and conflict resolution skills;

  • a valid Manual Driver's License.

     

     

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

 

Appointment will be made on a permanent or contractual basis.

 

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

Basic Salary

The salary scale for the post is R22-16, that is, EC$50,976 to $60,480 per annum (taxable).

    SELECTION PROCESS

    Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a selection process that involves attending one or more interviews and/or assessment centres.  These interviews are designed to assess the skills, competencies and attitudes of the applicant and may be conducted via SKYPE or in person.  The Interviews and/or Assessment Centres allow the Selection Panel to draw on more evidence about the applicants than can be derived from the written application.
